Pharmacist here wanting to see what is in a tech course nowadays. This one is full of incorrect/never seen or heard of abbreviations in over 30 years working, wrong UOMs seen on questions, poorly worded questions or questions not covered, totally not-real-life dosing, new math with bizarre rounding (let's convert that 20.016mg to 20.01mg which would be 2.005 ml of the pediatric suspension per dose! No, not 2 ml. ). I didn't pass one test because some questions were vague or answers all seemed possibly wrong or right depending on context. Please look up how to correctly pronounce drugs like methylpred.

For a simpler way to understand this course, scroll down immediately beneath the large paragraphs of text. As an independent student deeply interested in the healthcare field, I was shocked to see that Medcerts offered a Pharmacy Technician program on Coursera. A very lengthy course, one that requires a lot of attention to detail; you may make some errors on some mathematical aspects or exact terminology. It gets tricky when the multichoice answers are similar but slightly different in wording. The course itself might’ve not been exactly my cup of tea, but I still enjoyed it nonetheless. My favorite assignments had to include the various prescription drug labeling assignments. If you do enjoy mathematics or are considering becoming a healthcare professional in the pharmaceutical world, this is a great opportunity to begin your career. I believe a pharmaceutical career is worth pursuing if you have the interest to vaccinate, offer public health services, and administer drugs. Unlike some health professions, a completely online or hybrid program for pharmacy is quite doable for the average person. This course also provides extra insight on the exact origins behind commonly used medical phrases. It’s extremely useful to understand if you’re going into a field of any sort of health! I seriously believe it is one of the only times I felt like I learned a great deal from just medical terminology alone. Enough time for lengthy discussions on the coursework. I do stress that I really do think this is a very lengthy course, with some delay of the final project considering it’s a peer-reviewed assignment. It was quite difficult for me just based on the time length alone. Nonetheless, I believe anyone can do this and come out a more intelligent individual. Some severely generic things to note about the Pharmacy Technician Fundamental course: Sort of a big personal take on what I noticed in the course. Pharmacy Technician Essentials was the most difficult section of this whole entire course, alongside the final peer-reviewed project. The final project is mainly difficult due to the fact it’s peer-reviewed, so wait for the results of your project. Professionalism in Allied Health is extremely easy if you understand the basics of any other healthcare professions. It’s safe to use content clues; be respectful, kind and patient. Maintain a positive demeanor in these answers. Multi-choice answers; designed to trick you into slightly wrong but alternating choices. I used to hate these when I was in school. Any slight grammar mistakes in the answers you chose or give are completely WRONG. Read over diligently! * This might be more difficult for individuals for whom English isn’t the first language or dyslexic people. Interesting stuff to learn about how medical terminology works. Basically, what suffixes of medical terms mean, e.g., “-gastro.” Mathematics, including learning how to count and divide specific measurements of drugs. Administering medication is also a mathematical thing, based on dosage. For someone as not mathematically gifted at ALL, these sections were very difficult. Taking breaks seems essential for this course! Pace yourself properly; it’s way too easy to get distracted with this course. Boredom is very common. I couldn’t even handle it in one sitting, as a very prolific student! This course is quite time-exhaustive for the average person. I personally think its length really harms it for a beginner course. Reward yourself after this course’s completion too. It’s seriously worth it.* It’s important to look over the questions and answers. Seriously, I messed up too many times with reading my own answers! Quizzes are quite long. Some certain sections aren’t available for those without a PC. On iOS, you can use the requested desktop version of the site to get the full experience. These are usually plug-ins, or slides. I assume the same can function with an Android phone. It’s possible to do this course on a phone!* Other than that, I hope you have fun with this subject itself. I hope I didn’t give away too much of what occurs in this course, as I want it to be a surprise. Trust me, it’s worth it to keep on going.
