Let me sum up this course: a guy who calls himself Kevin and whose name and credentials remain unknown to us reads out a bunch of jargon-ridden slides. The reading lacks punch. That's it. Students do get access to a mainframe machine, but never get to write a line of code nor do anything else in the labs than navigate menus with zero explanation of the options presented to them, and type mysterious single-letter commands next to some file name. As for the official instructor, Erik Herman, he never shows up other than as a name and signature on the students' course certificate. The same goes for the rest of the specialisation so far. The first course in the series is pretty much the same, although the instructor, Jeff Bisti, delivers the content with significantly more energy than "Kevin".

it was very, very dense and boring, and the labs pretty much repeats itself with no opportunity to write cobol from scratch. you will have to take the initiative to learn how to code on your own instead

Theres zero writing of cobol in the labs, you don't even touch cobol in this course like you did in cobol basics, and "touching" is a generous description.
